Development of Novel Biomass Torrefaction Process

Stopford, in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, has successfully developed a novel biomass torrefaction process using microwave plasma technology. The study comprising fuel characterisation studies, reactor design and build, process safety, plant commissioning and technology optimisation has enabled the development of a process that is able to produce torrefied biomass pellets with a specification exacting of ECN and superior to that of many competing products.
