Dispersion Modelling for a Chemical Manufacturing Facility

Following a pressure relief study undertaken by Stopford at a chemical manufacturing facility for a large chemicals company, we were asked to demonstrate safety via a dispersion modelling study.

The facility is used to manufacture a range of esters such as ethylene glycol diacetate using reactors such as catchpots. Pressure vessels containing mono ethylene glycol and acetic acid (for the production of esters) are equipped with a pressure relief valve which needed to be studied.

Scope of work:

  • ADMS 5 was used to model emissions using atmospheric dispersion & deposition modelling principles to simulate transport of pollutants
  • Collection of input data (plant details, process & emissions data, meteorological data)
  • Collection of local environmental conditions (wind data, surface roughness, local terrain)
  • Various scenarios were used
  • Write-up of findings and recommendations
