ATEX Survey and Area Classification

A multinational oil company commissioned Stopford to carry out an ATEX survey and area classification. This involved conducting a survey of existing electrical and mechanical equipment at the client’s fuel storage terminal, to gauge compliance with legislation governing the use of such equipment in areas where flammable atmospheres may be present.

The agreed deliverables were as follows:

  • Obtain information from the site and update the existing area classification drawing as required.
  • Carry out a Gap Analysis through visual inspection of electrical equipment and instrumentation installed and introduced in all zoned areas, to identify gaps in compliance with applicable standards and identify additional survey work where applicable.
  • Carry out a Gap Analysis through visual inspection of mechanical equipment installed and introduced in all zoned areas, to identify potential issues of concern and identify additional survey work where applicable.
